Single Origin - Ethiopia - Idido
Yirgacheffe is one of those places where coffee feels less like a crop and more like a calling. The highland village of Idido, tucked deep in the red-brown clay soils of this legendary region, has been quietly turning out some of the most expressive and complex naturals in Ethiopia for decades. This lot, sourced from dozens of smallholder farmers and processed with meticulous care at the Idido Washing Station, is a perfect example of why this region still makes coffee people talk in reverent tones.
In the cup, it’s rich and elegant — layered with deep black cherry, warm nutmeg spice, and a marzipan-like sweetness that finishes soft and clean. It’s fruit-forward, but not flashy; spiced, but not sharp. Just a deeply comforting cup that holds its shape beautifully as it cools.
This natural-processed lot starts with cherry selection — with special care taken to only accept ripe, dense fruit. The cherries are dried slowly on raised beds, turned constantly, and sorted multiple times by hand. Each lot is traceable and coded for quality, ensuring consistency from delivery to export.
The farmers here work on tiny plots of land — often just a quarter of a hectare — and bring their harvest to the washing station on foot or by mule. This coffee represents the combined effort of an entire community working in sync with the land and season. We roast this one gently to preserve its structure and warmth — a quiet stunner that reminds us why we fell in love with coffee in the first place.
